Galway Scór na nÓg 2010

From the Galway GAA website
The first Galway County Titles of the 2010 season were decided on Sunday in the Scór na nÓg County Finals. The excellent exhibition of music, song and dance was held in Mountbellew Community Hall despite the extremely cold and frosty conditions throughout the County. The keen competition on stage and the wealth of talent on show, however, was enough to banish all thoughts of the inclement conditions. The only disappointing aspect of this years Scór na nÓg was that only 7 clubs were represented with excellent talent in other parts of the county still remaining hidden by not taking part in the competition.Eight County Titles were decided on Sunday with the Scór strongholds holding out from strong competition in most categories. New entrants Baile Chláir and Bóthar na Trá/Cnoc na Cathrach had successful outings with Deirdre Ní Bhraonáin, Claregalway winning the Solo Singing and the seasiders taking the quiz title. Naomh Breandán, Ballygar also regained the County Title in the rince foirne. The strong tradition of Scór continues in some clubs and holding on to their County Titles from last year were An Creagán/Maigh Locha – Novelty Act, Cora Finne – Instrumental Music, Maria Regan, Cealtrach – Recitation, Mainistir Chnoc Muaidhe – Set Dancing, Cealtrach – Ballad Group. Indeed, Galway won 4 Scór na nÓg Connacht Titles in 2009 and will hope to compete strongly again this year. All entrants were highly commended on their efforts in this years Scór na nÓg and the winners will go forward to represent Galway at the Connacht Scór na nÓg Finals which will be held in Banada, Co Sligo on Saturday 23 January 2010. The Galway Scór na nÓg champions for 2010 are:

Rince Foirne: Naomh Breandán, Béal Átha Ghártha

Nuachleas: An Creagán/Maigh Locha

Amhránaíocht Aonair: Deirdre Ní Bhraonáin, Baile Chláir

Rince Seit: Mainistir Chnoc Muaidhe

Ceol Uirlise: Cora Finne

Tráth Na gCeist: Bóthar na Trá/Cnoc na Cathrach

Aithriseoireacht: Maria Regan, Cealtrach

Bailéad Ghrúpa: Cealtrach
